Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.
**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**
The fundamental reason this
classification exists is to supervise work crews involved in skilled or semi-skilled
maintenance and repair work; positions are located in multiple City departments. The work responsibilities are: plans assignments;
directs activities of the crew; performs maintenance, repair, and utility work
tasks; documents activities on
projects; and supervises the work crew.
The distinguishing characteristic of this classification is
the responsibility for supervising work crews engaged in manual semi-skilled to
skilled labor performing building and grounds maintenance and repair work. A
work crew is typically composed of an Equipment Operator and two to five
Service Maintenance Workers. (The number
of crew members varies depending on location as well as the time of the year
and special events occurring.) Incumbents
are responsible for planning and carrying out assignments with considerable
independence and have some latitude in developing procedures and methods. Incumbents physically engage in work tasks
when necessary. Position incumbents
receive work assignments and are responsible for prioritizing those
assignments. Supervisors are contacted
for guidance in cases of unexpected occurrences or unanticipated
situations. Errors made during the
performance of tasks can result in safety hazards to the general public and the
work crew. Supervision is received from various classifications, dependent upon
the incumbents’ assigned location.
Two years of experience on a
utility maintenance crew involved in general maintenance and repair of
buildings and grounds to include landscaping of parks and building grounds; or
layout, assembly and dismantling of athletic flooring, to include some
experience as a lead worker.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Must work overtime and/or irregular hours for special events, projects, and emergencies.
