Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to realize the Museum’s strategic plan’s learning priorities by managing the programs of the Museum.  The work responsibilities are: establishes and evolves the Museum’s Lifelong Learning Program; develops and implements resonant, viewer-centered interpretative frameworks and content delivery systems; guides the evolution and activities of the Museum’s interactive learning center; leads and manages four or more direct reports and their teams; plans and manages the programs budget; and serves on the management team.  The Museum Curator III reports to the Museum Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Art Education or Museum Education Studies and four years of experience in professional art or museum education.   

NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds). Require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.  Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application. If more than five qualified applications are received, a selection procedure will be used to rank applicants on the register.  Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
