Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is to perform semi-skilled building and grounds maintenance, minor mechanical and maintenance repair, and custodial duties.  The essential functions of this classification are: performs routine custodial tasks; performs simple mechanical and maintenance repair; performs ground maintenance duties; and contributes to the department objectives.  Work is performed under the supervision of an Airport Terminal Maintenance Foreman who issues written or oral instructions.

Minimum Qualifications

Six (6) months experience performing custodial work or general building maintenance or trade work such as electrical or plumbing. 

Special Requirements

Must submit to a Security Threat Assessment to include, but is not limited to, a 5-year employment background check, fingerprint check and criminal history check to satisfy Federal Aviation Administration requirements.  Employees must meet necessary security requirements for unescorted access to the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA).  Work will include shift work, nights, weekends, and holidays.  Must have a valid Alabama Driver’s License.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Physical ability to climb a 12 feet ladder to heights to change light bulbs, hang signs or make minor roof repairs. Physical ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach and stoop as needed to clean or remove items or debris from floors and carpet. Physical ability to climb stairs as needed to clean the floor in stairways. Physical ability to push and pull heavy equipment or machines used for the maintenance of the airport lobby, terminal and grounds. Physical ability to work in a variety of weather and environmental conditions with exposure to the elements, dust, heat and cold temperatures as needed to perform assigned job tasks.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the Montgomery Regional Airport.  Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application and supplemental questionnaire form completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were.  If more than five qualified applications are received, a selection procedure will be developed in order to rank applicants on the register.  Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
