Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is to perform skilled plumbing work in installing, repairing and maintaining water and waste systems in Montgomery County Support Services facilities including the Montgomery County Detention Center. The work responsibilities of this position are: troubleshooting and repairing plumbing and/or fixtures; installing new plumbing; replacing/installing new plumbing fixtures; serving as a lead worker in completing plumbing projects; and performing administrative related duties. Assignments are made as oral or written instruction of work to be done and may be accompanied by sketches or blueprints. Work is performed independently or under supervision of the Plant Maintenance Engineer or Assistant Plant Maintenance Engineer with inspection in process and upon completion for quality of work.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D equivalent and five (5) years of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems.  Must possess a plumber journeyman license.

Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license. Must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays and be on call 24 hours as needed to perform emergency plumbing tasks. Must work outdoors in various weather conditions, in small confined spaces, on unstable ground, in high areas or in deep underground spaces.

Kind of Examination
