Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this class exists is to provide a full range of psychological services including diagnostic testing, evaluation, treatment and referral of clients of the Montgomery County Juvenile Court.  Work responsibilities include evaluating and documenting the mental and emotional status of adults, children and adolescents; providing treatment and referrals; coordinating psychological services with other social, medical and legal agencies; developing and implementing crisis intervention programs; and supervising a Court Therapist I.  General supervision is received from the Chief Probation Officer.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctoral degree in psychology from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by one year of supervised experience in clinical psychology or closely related field.  Must be currently licensed by the state of Alabama as a Psychologist or Licensed Professional Counselor.

Special Requirements

Must be available to respond to emergencies at night, on weekends and holidays as needed. Must be willing to work in a maximum-security detention facility.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any other vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the Montgomery County Youth Facility Juvenile Court. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and  supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five qualified applications are received, a selection procedure will be used to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
