Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exist is to collect the information needed to assess appropriate property tax values.  Primary work responsibilities may include: performing field inspections on various types of real estate including residential, farm, and commercial properties and business personal property; compiling and enters data collected from field inspections into database for appraisal use; assisting tax payers, tax representatives, and other appraisers with questions relative to values and determination of property values; and performing other duties as assigned.  The Appraiser I classification is distinguished from the Appraiser II classification in that the Appraiser I classification collects field data for the determination of appraised value; final valuation decision duties are reserved for higher level Appraiser classifications.  Appraiser Is receive close guidance and direction from higher level Appraiser IIs & IIIs; supervision is provided by the Chief Appraiser.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or a closely related field.  

 

Special Requirements

Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License and an insurable driving record.

WORK CONDITIONS:  Work is performed in an office environment as well as out of the office, with frequent contact with individual home owners, business owners, contractors, and the general public.  Work is performed in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements to include direct sun exposure, extreme heat and/or cold, rain, and lightning.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the Montgomery County Revenue Commission - Appraisal Division. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and  supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five qualified applications are received, an assembled test will be administered to rank applicants on the register.  Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
