Library Assistant II

Recruitment #20-CI7140-01

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to provide expert library support to librarians and branches throughout the library system.  Assistant IIs are assigned to a specific branch or division such as Extension Services or Technical Services as their primary responsibility; however, they are also utilized to fill staff shortages throughout the library system.  Major work responsibilities include performing collection maintenance activities, providing support to small libraries when there is a staffing shortage, performing circulation duties, serving patrons and the public, maintaining facilities, and performing miscellaneous duties.  Library Assistant IIs differ from Library Assistant Is in that they are expected to have a greater degree of knowledge as needed to fill-in at branches with staff shortages or briefly manage a small branch in the absence of a librarian.  Library Assistant IIs differ from librarians in that library assistants are not responsible for programming.  Library Assistant IIs work under the supervision of a librarian.
