Nature of Work

The fundamental reason for this classification is to assist the Finance Director with planning, coordinating, and directing activities within all divisions of the Finance Department and Risk Management Department.  The Deputy Finance Director serves as a resource to employees in all areas of operations within the department and serves as the final authority for the Finance Department in the absence of the Finance Director.  Primary work responsibilities include assisting the Finance Director in: daily operations; overseeing special projects; managing financial activities related to City’s bond and debt service, capital projects, and grants; and performing additional financial planning duties and various other administrative duties. The incumbent reports directly to the Finance Director; in the absence of the Finance Director, the incumbent reports to the Mayor.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration and four years of highly responsible experience managing and supervising the accounting and financial functions of a governmental agency; or leading audits for governmental agency.  Experience should include one year executive or managerial level with a municipality.

Kind of Examination
