Nature of Work
This is responsible stock
handling and store record keeping in the Police, Information Technology (IT)
Departments or the Division of Purchasing for the City of Montgomery. The
employee is responsible for the receiving, issuing, inspecting and storing of a
large and varied stock of equipment and supplies used for various City
departments. Work involves processing and reconciling purchasing and billing of
supplies, equipment and/or parts, assisting technicians with diagnosing
equipment problems, maintaining and updating a list of vendor contracts,
conducting spot checks and annual inventory of items and preparing surplus
equipment and vehicles for public sale. Work is performed under the general
supervision of the Warehouse Supervisor or Radio Communications Supervisor. The
employee has considerable independent responsibility for maintaining an
adequate supply and stock levels.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a High School Diploma or GED and at
least two (2) years of administrative experience in the receiving, storing,
issuing, distributing and charging out various materials, supplies and
equipment to other departments or organizations.
NOTE: Preference will be given to
applicants with basic accounting experience to include bill reconciliation, processing
purchase orders, and/or preparing invoices.
Special Requirements
Must have and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license as needed to drive City
vehicle when picking up and delivering supplies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Physical ability to lift up to 80
pounds unassisted as needed to receive, issue and store supplies.
Kind of Examination

The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Purchasing Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire. For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five qualified applications are received, a selection procedure will be used to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
