Airfield Maintenance Foreman

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform skilled work repairing and maintaining paved and unpaved airfield surfaces, hangers, and various mechanical devices. Work also involves semi-skilled and manual labor required to perform a variety of duties necessary to maintain airport properties using a variety of light and heavy construction equipment, power and hand tools. The work responsibilities are: repairs and maintains a variety of light and heavy construction and related equipment; operates trucks and related automotive equipment; repairs and maintains a variety of mechanical devices; performs various maintenance tasks; assigns and directs the work of Airfield Maintenance Technicians in the absence of the Supervisor. Employees in this class report to the Airfield Maintenance Supervisor.

High school diploma or GED equivalent and three (3) years of experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of light and heavy automotive and construction equipment, preferably in airfield maintenance; supplemented by or including one (1) year of lead worker experience.

Must be able to work in various weather conditions such as rain, extreme heat and/or cold. Must be able to be “on-call” on the week of your shift. Must be able to work nights and weekends. Must submit to a 5-year employment and criminal background check to include fingerprinting in order to satisfy Federal Aviation Administration requirements. Must have and maintain a valid Alabama Driver's License and an insurable driving record.
