Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is to perform advanced supervisory work in planning and implementing community corrections programs designed to assist the Montgomery District and Circuit Courts.  Duties include overseeing the development and implementation of a variety of local alternative punishment programs including a county probation program, pre-trial (and/or pre-indictment) release program, drug court program, jail and prison diversion program for sentenced offenders and a community service program.  Job duties also include supervising community corrections staff members, researching community corrections programs and activities, administering a department budget, and coordinating work efforts with other local departments and organizations involved in the corrections system.  This position reports to the Montgomery County Community Punishment and Corrections Authority Board.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have a Master’s Degree in criminal justice, court administration, public administration, business administration or closely related field and five (5) years of community corrections program management and administrative experience (executive-level) to include grant administration.  NOTE:  Must be Certified in Law Enforcement by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (APOSTC).

Special Requirements

Must have and maintain a valid Alabama Driver’s License and insurable driving record as needed to travel to various sites.  Must be willing to submit to a criminal background check and a drug test.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with the Montgomery County Community Corrections Department.  Applicants will be screened and qualified based on the education and experience on the application and supplemental questionnaire. For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application and supplemental questionnaire form completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were. If there are more than five qualified applicants, a selection procedure will be administered to rank the applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
