Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to enforce parking violations by issuing parking citations to vehicles parked in violation of Montgomery’s traffic ordinances.  The essential functions are: enforces parking violations in an assigned district; assists occasionally the Traffic Division of the Montgomery Police Department in directing traffic; and performs other related or assigned duties to include, performing flag detail, maintaining assigned vehicle and escorting street sweeper vehicle.  Employees are directly supervised by a Real Property Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.  Must have the ability to issue parking citations, using a hand held computer with printer after receiving instructions or on-the-job training.

Special Requirements

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a valid Alabama driver’s license prior to employment.  Must be of a good moral character and have no record of conviction of a felony, or misdemeanor involving physical violence or force, moral turpitude, or serious traffic violations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be certified by a licensed physician designated as satisfactory by the appointing authority as in good health and physically fit for the performance of assigned duties.  A person with a disability which is covered by the ADA must be able to perform the work responsibilities of the job unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation.  The list of work responsibilities is to be used as a starting point to determine essential functions for a specific position at a specific location at a specific time.  The ADA was intended to be applied on a case-by-case basis with the understanding that one position may differ from another similar position.  The performance of non-essential functions is not optional for employees not covered under the ADA.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Parking Management Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and  supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five qualified applications are received, the supplemental questionnaire will be used to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken (in accordance with Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule VII, Section 3). If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
