Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is to assist in the medicine, surgery, and preventative medicine programs of the Montgomery Zoo.  The essential functions of the position are: performs routine and diagnostic laboratory testing duties, assists in medical care procedures, performs administrative related functions such as records keeping and inventory, and contributes to the departments objectives.  This position reports to Animal Care Manager and receives direction from the contracted Veterinary Services.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have an Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology or closely related field and one (1) year of veterinary technician experience at an animal shelter, veterinary clinic or other animal care facility.

NOTE:  Qualified applicants must be Licensed Veterinary Technicians.

Special Requirements

Must be able to work weekends and holidays and special events.  Must have and maintain a valid Alabama Driver's license and an insurable driving record in order to drive city vehicles to transport medical materials to provide on-sight medical assistance to animals. Qualified applicants must submit to a medical exam following a conditional job offer to demonstrate that they are TB negative.

Kind of Examination
