Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to oversee and participate in the maintenance and repair of multi-use, public assembly facilities, buildings and equipment. An employee in this class is responsible for planning, scheduling and performing repair and maintenance of a baseball stadium, amphitheater, train shed and related mechanical systems and equipment to include plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning systems and equipment, and for supervising skilled and unskilled workers in the performance of these duties.  The work responsibilities of this position include: plans and schedules maintenance, repair and construction projects on buildings and equipment; conducts inspections of facilities and performs skilled maintenance and repair work on buildings and equipment; supervises one full-time, skilled employee and temporary, contract or other workers as assigned; assists in preparing the facility for special events; and performs administrative duties. The incumbent reports to the Director or Assistant Director of Riverfront Facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of technical college coursework in a trade such as HVAC, carpentry, electrical or plumbing, and three (3) years of experience at the lead journey level in the area of specialization, performing maintenance, repair and construction work in commercial buildings and facilities, including or supplemented by experience inspecting or supervising building maintenance or construction work. One year of lead journey level experience may be substituted for the year of education.

Special Requirements

Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license.  Ability to work flexible hours to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed to complete projects.  Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.  Ability to be on-call as needed to complete special or emergency projects.  Must pass a drug test. 

Kind of Examination

If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
