ITS Electronic Technician I

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform highly skilled technical work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the City of Montgomery’s electronic traffic control devices and computerized control and communication systems.  Work requires a broad range of electronics technical knowledge and is performed with considerable independence of judgment. Primary work responsibilities may include: monitoring traffic from the Traffic Management Center (TMC); installing and programming electronic traffic control devices and supporting equipment; responding to service requests and calls; and performing diagnostic checks and repairs to electronic traffic control devices, fiber optic cables, and supporting equipment.  The ITS Technician I is distinguished from the ITS Technician II in that the ITS Technician II serves as the lead worker onsite and typically performs more complex technical duties.  The ITS Technician I receives technical guidance from the Electronic Technician II and receives supervision from the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Manager.
