Nature of Work

This is an entry-level class performing basic office/clerical work such as data entry, general office work including answering phones (reception), filing, completing department specific documentation and records, retrieving and in-putting information into databases, forms or reports.  This class performs a low variety of duties with clearly defined instructions and follows routine procedures requiring little to no decision-making outside of the defined duties.  Tasks in this class are typically repetitive in nature and require no judgment or policy interpretation.  Work is performed under the close supervision of supervisors from varying job class levels.  The employee carries out work in accordance with specific instructions from the supervisor.  Most positions support supervisors in smaller divisions or departments.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED and 6 months of clerical experience (answering phones, typing, filing).  Must also pass a typing test requirement of 37 net words per minute with no more than 12 errors.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The register established from this announcement period will expire one year from the register date. The register will be set up to fill vacancies with the City of Montgomery, Montgomery County and Montgomery Airport Authority. For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and willingness questionnaire completely, providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were.  Applicants will be ranked on the eligible list on the basis of a six part multiple-choice test. Tied scores will not be broken.

Test: Qualified applicants will be notified of the available times and dates to appear for a computerized test, which includes a typing test at least two weeks prior to the test date.

If you have submitted a qualifying typing proficiency to the Montgomery City-County Personnel Department in the past, you are not required to produce a new typing proficiency.

If you have not submitted a qualifying typing proficiency to the Montgomery City-County Personnel Department you have two options:

Option A: You may schedule an appointment with a state operated Career Center such as the Montgomery Area Career Center located at 1060-A East South Boulevard, (334) 286-1746

Option B: You may self-schedule your typing test at the Montgomery City-County Personnel Office when you receive a self-schedule letter from Montgomery City-County Personnel Department. The letter will be sent after the job closes on February 20, 2019.

We will only accept typing tests administered by a state operated Career Center or the Montgomery City-County Personnel Department. A list of career centers can be obtained from Career One stop (www.careeronestop.org).  

After passing the typing test at the Career Center, it is your responsibility to request that the Career Center fax your typing certificate to the Montgomery City-County Personnel Department at 334.625.2219.

Complete an online application by visiting Montgomery City-County Personnel's Online Employment Center. Paper applications are no longer accepted. Completed applications will be accepted online until 5:00 p.m. on the closing date. If there is no closing date, the announcement may be closed at any time without prior notice.
