The fundamental reason this classification exists is to supervise the work of skilled and semi-skilled workers engaged in the maintenance and repair of County roads and roadways. Employees in this class are responsible for the overall supervision of several crews or independent supervision of a large crew engaged in general maintenance activities or a smaller crew engaged in skilled or semi-skilled activities. The essential functions are: supervises two or more full-time employees; performs administrative duties to include completing requisitions and purchase orders, calculating materials needed, maintaining a daily journal, pit report, accident report and asphalt tickets; oversees the building and the general maintenance or repair of County roads; oversees a work crew in cutting grass on the shoulder of roads and drainage ditches, keeping the County’s right-of-way to property line clear of grasses and debris; oversees a work crew in paving and patching of road with liquid asphalt, crushed stone and other materials on County roads. Employees are responsible for organizing the work and exercising the technical supervision of the entire maintenance unit. Work is performed under the general supervision of a District Maintenance Superintendent.
High School Diploma or GED with two years of experience in the performance of skilled road maintenance and equipment operation (motor grader, rubber tire excavator, bull dozer, front-end loader, scrapper pan, tractor, chip spreader, tar distributor and dump truck) to include supervisory experience.
Must have a current Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and maintain an insurable driving record. Physical ability to lift up to 100 pounds unassisted to include chain saw, tree limbs, bags of grass seeds, sealing blocks, signs and cones as needed to repair County roads and roadways. Physical ability to work in extreme outdoor weather temperatures and environments, i.e., heat, cold, rain, and dust as needed to supervise work crews engaged in the maintenance of county roads and roadways. Ability to work weekends, holidays and be on call as needed to handle emergencies.

This position is open only to Montgomery County Engineering Department employees who have completed their probationary period and meet the minimum qualifications.
