Assistant Juvenile Detention Director

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason that this classification exists is to supervise the detention staff and perform administrative duties under the direction of the Detention Director.  Major work responsibilities include managing a juvenile detention facility shift, supervising employees, resolving and investigating emergencies and complaints, managing documents and files related to federal, state and professional standards, manages employee training programs, and assisting the director with facility operations.  The incumbent is supervised by the Juvenile Detention Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have a Bachelor’s degree in criminal or juvenile justice or a social or behavioral science and five (5) years of experience in a secured juvenile facility including three (3) years of juvenile facility leadership or supervisory experience.



Special Requirements

Must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays and willing to be on-call to respond to emergency incidents as needed.  Must possess or be able to attain a valid Alabama Driver’s license within 60 days and have an acceptable driving record.

Kind of Examination

Tied scores will not be broken. If the number of qualified applicants is equal to or less than the appropriate number for referral, qualified candidates will be certified as equally qualified.
