Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to oversee and participate in the maintenance and construction of ballfields for the City of Montgomery.  Responsibility includes effectively laying out work, maintaining work schedules, and giving technical instructions as required.  The essential functions are: supervises and assists a crew in constructing and maintaining ballfields; maintains 20 or more ballfields; and supervises and participates in performing other routine manual tasks.  Work is received in the form of specific assignments and frequent conferences with the Ballfield Maintenance Supervisor and the work is inspected occasionally while in progress and upon completion.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years’ experience performing ballfield construction and maintenance duties, including or supplemented by six months experience as a lead worker.

Special Requirements

Possession of a valid Alabama Commercial Driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within six months as needed to drive and operate city vehicles.  Must be willing to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements, to include heat, cold, rain and dust.  May work longer than normal regular hours to ensure completion of projects with deadlines or time frames.

Kind of Examination

If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
