Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform professional auditing and valuation work appraising business personal property in order to ensure the accurate and lawful collection of tax revenues in Montgomery County.  Incumbents of this classification also assist in managing workflow and provide technical guidance to employees who perform work related to business personal property appraisals and auditing.  Primary work responsibilities may include: Serves in a leadership role by assisting with work flow, providing guidance, technical review, and training; conducting desk and field audits; conducting investigations of businesses operating within Montgomery County; and serving as department expert concerning business personal property appraisals and audits.  The Personal Property Auditor receives supervision from the Chief Appraiser.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience in property appraisal and valuation to include conducting desk and field audits of business and financial records.  Must have and maintain the designation of an Alabama Certified Appraiser-Personal Property.    

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the Montgomery County Revenue Commission - Appraisal Division.  Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and attached supplemental questionnaire.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and the supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were.  If more than five qualified applications are received, a selection procedure will be administered.  Tied scores will not be broken (in accordance with Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule VII, Section 3). If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
