Auto Mechanic Small Gas Engine

Nature of Work

This is skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of motorcycles, tractors, post-hole diggers, air compressors, weed eaters, electrical generators and other small gas engines.  Employee works under general direction and supervision and is expected to exercise independent judgment as to the method of repair after receiving written or oral instructions concerning the operating conditions of a piece of equipment.  Reports directly to the Master Mechanic, Property Maintenance Supervisor, District Park Maintenance Superintendent or Production Controller.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have at least two (2) years’ experience repairing small gas engines such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, and Tecumseh.

Employment is conditioned upon applicants acquiring and maintaining an Alabama Driver's license and providing a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) from the Department of Public Safety as proof of an insurable driving record.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have the ability to perform heavy lifting of objects 60 - 100 lbs. and perform strenuous physical tasks over extended periods of time.  Must have the ability to work in inclement weather.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Fleet Management Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application and supplemental questionnaire form completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five qualified applications are received, the application will be used to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
