Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exist is to oversee a crew of semi-skilled and unskilled workers and participate in the maintenance of lawns and ground s of City parks and buildings.  Responsibilities include effectively laying out work and maintaining work schedules and giving technical instructions as required.  The essential function are: organizes and directs the work of a group of employees; and performs other maintenance duties.  Work is received in the form of specific assignments and the work is inspected occasionally while in progress and upon completion.  Supervision is received from the Street Maintenance Superintendent and/or supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience as a lead worker on a construction, maintenance, or landscape crew performing landscape maintenance duties.

Special Requirements

Must have and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license.  Employment is conditioned upon applicants acquiring and maintaining an Alabama driver's license and providing a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) from the Department of Public Safety as proof of an insurable driving record.   Some positions may require a valid commercial drivers license with a passenger endorsement.  Some positions may require a training seminar with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any other vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Maintenance Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were.  If more than five qualified applications are received, the application will be used to rank applicants on the register.  Tied scores will not be broken (in accordance with Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule VII, Section 3). If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
