Museum Preparator/Designer

Nature of Work

This is professional and technical work handling, housing, and installing works of art in the Museum’s collection or on loan. The Preparator/Designer is a member of the Museum’s curatorial department, and works cooperatively with the curators and registrars. The Museum Preparator/ Designer is supervised by the Senior Curator of Art.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have two years of experience in fine carpentry work and the care and handling of art or artifacts to include matting and framing. 

Special Requirements

Must possess a valid Alabama driver’s license as needed to pick up parts from local vendors and transport works of art.  May work overtime, weekends, and holidays. May require out-of-town and out-of-State overnight courier travel.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.  Applicants will be screened and qualified based on the education and experience on the application. If more than five (5) qualified applications are received,  the application will be used to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken (in accordance with Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule VII, Section 3). If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
