This announcement for Service Maintenance Worker I has been released as an advertisement for individuals interested in working for the Sanitation Department and/or Street Maintenance Department. 

Applications are passed out and accepted ONLY on Wednesday mornings between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 AM at the City Lot Guard Shack, 934 North Ripley Street, Montgomery, AL.  Applications will NOT be passed out or accepted on any other day or at any other time. 

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform manual work which does not require a high degree of manipulative skill or an acquired skill or previous experience. Work is generally performed under the immediate direction of a supervisor, but many types of work assigned may be very routine and repetitive in nature, and after once learned can be carried out with some independence.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires basic skills in reading and writing and ability to use simple tools and equipment where proficiency is gained in hours or days.

Special Requirements

Some positions require the use of departmental vehicles on departmental business. Individuals must be capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.
