Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to provide skilled work in the repair, servicing, and mounting/demounting wheels and tires of automobiles, light trucks, and or heavy equipment.  Employees in this class work with considerable independence in responding to service calls in the field in order to examine, repair, and/or replace tires and in performing light maintenance and minor repairs the shop.  Primary work responsibilities may include:  repairing, servicing, mounting, and demounting tires for heavy equipment and medium/heavy truck both in the shop and on road service; repairing, servicing, mounting, and demounting tires for automobiles, light trucks, motorcycles, scooters and other small vehicles; and servicing and performing minor repairs automobiles and light trucks.   For safety purposes, it is preferred that servicers work in tandem.  Dependent upon location, work is performed under the supervision of an Auto Mechanic, Master Auto Mechanic, or Superintendent.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have six (6) months experience removing, disassembling, repairing, and reinstalling tires and/or performing minor repair and maintenance on automobiles, trucks, and/or heavy equipment. 

NOTE:   Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
  

Special Requirements

Employment is conditioned upon applicants possessing and maintaining an Alabama Driver’s License and providing a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) from the Department of Public Safety as proof of an insurable driving record as needed to drive city vehicles.
