The fundamental reason this classification exists is
to perform difficult technical work in the form of triage, acquisition and correlation
reviews of cartridge cases submitted for entry into the National Ballistics
Information Network (NIBIN) system. The work responsibilities of this
classification will include: monitoring NIBIN imaging technology and
microscopy; conducting reviews of NIBIN acquisitions and correlation; providing
information and guidance to law enforcement, attorneys and various agencies;
maintaining chain of custody and integrity of evidence; and performing on call
NIBIN Technician duties as required. This position reports to the MCSO Investigations
Division Commander or his/her designee.
Bachelor’s
degree in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, Sociology, Information Systems,
or a related field. One (1) year of
experience in collecting, analyzing, or investigating criminal intelligence
data for law enforcement.
NOTE:
Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite
knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must be able to complete an Alcohol, Tobacco,
Firearms (ATF) approved NIBIN training program and qualify to possess an ATF
NIBIN system security clearance.
