Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is to conduct employee relations programs.  The essential functions of this classification are:  investigates personnel related complaints and/or grievances; makes recommendations or findings regarding complaints and grievances; monitors personnel policies, procedures and programs; develops and establishes an in-service employee training program; implements and evaluates training programs; and contributes to department objectives.  The Employee Relations & Training Specialist carries out most assignments with considerable independence and receives general supervision from the Personnel Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, human resources, or a related field and three years’ experience in employee relations, including training and experience in complaint mediation or arbitration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in employee training and development desirable.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
