Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to assist the Director of Elections in preparing and conducting elections held throughout Montgomery County. The Assistant Elections Director acts on behalf of the Director of Elections during his/her absence. The essential functions are: supervises the work of temporary employees and interns; coordinates the training process and assists in the training of polling officials for Federal, State, County and other local elections; coordinates with each of Montgomery County’s polling places prior to an election; coordinates the technical aspects of the election center and assists in handling problems, as necessary; maintains, tests, and secures the voting equipment and voting software; maintains supplies and inspects equipment; and performs administrative duties and referred tasks. The Assistant Elections Director reports to the Director of Elections.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's in political science, public or business administration or a similar degree and two years of administrative experience at the level of an assistant director or higher which includes the responsibility for planning, designing, and carrying out programs, projects, studies, or other work independently.  Experience administering elections at the county, municipal or state level is preferred and can substitute for the administrative experience.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
