Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.
**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations**
The
fundamental reason this position exists is to serve as the second in command to
the Chief of Police, ensuring continuity of leadership and effective management
of the Montgomery Police Department. The Deputy Police Chief may serve as the
Chief of Staff or Operations and assume department command in the Chief’s
absence. The work responsibilities include policy development, budget
administration, operational evaluation, supervision, and public relations. The
Deputy Police Chief reports directly to the Chief of Police.
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business
Administration, or a closely related field, and twelve (12) years of law enforcement
experience, including at least two years in a senior management role such as
Major, in a Federal, State, County, or Municipal Police Agency in a jurisdiction
similar to Montgomery. Qualifying education, training, and experience that
provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will
be considered. Must be Alabama POST Certified within one year of employment.
