Nature of Work

The Fire Chief is responsible to the Director of Public Safety for the direction of the Montgomery Fire Department, including all firefighting, medic, arson investigation, and fire education and prevention activities of the City.  Major duties include responding to large emergency incidents, supervising department or division personnel, developing, implementing and enforcing policies and procedures, handling complaints or questions from employees or the public, preparing and presenting the department's annual operating budget, overseeing the activities of the Arson Investigations and Codes and Standards Divisions and directs the Chief of Staff and Assistant Fire Chiefs activities.  The Fire Chief directly supervises the Chief of Staff and Assistant Fire Chiefs. 

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a Bachelor's Degree and five (5) years of highly responsible fire department management experience to include policy development, budget administration, personnel administration, operations evaluation, and public relations in a jurisdiction with a population of 75,000 or more; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

Must be willing to be on call and respond to emergency incidents as needed and must reside within the city limits of Montgomery.
