The fundamental reason this position exists is to perform and oversee maintenance, repair, testing and replacement of equipment used by Montgomery Fire Department to include station equipment, specialized Firefighting equipment, and/or equipment assigned to fire apparatus. This person works out of the designated MFD maintenance shop while making repairs to equipment, replacing equipment components and/or replacing equipment and placing the equipment back into fire service. This position is supervised by the Deputy Fire Chief who provides very general supervision. This employee works in the field at the various fire stations and in the maintenance shop handling maintenance problems.
Must have five (5) years' experience in the Montgomery Fire Department, must possess a valid Certification in Air Pak SCBA Maintenance and Overhaul, must have two (2) years' mechanical background experience including maintenance on specialized fire service equipment, and be certified as a MFD Firefighter. A completed Certification Course in Electronic Technology may substitute for the two (2) years' mechanical experience.
Employees in this position may be required to be on-call 24-hours a day for emergency maintenance problems.
