The fundamental reason this position exists is to perform maintenance, repair, testing and replacement of equipment used by Montgomery Fire Department (MFD). Duties include maintaining station equipment, specialized firefighting equipment, and/or equipment assigned to fire apparatus. This person works out of the designated MFD maintenance shop while making repairs to equipment, replacing equipment components and/or replacing equipment and placing the equipment back into fire service. This position is supervised by a Fire Equipment Technician II who provides close supervision. This employee mainly works in the field at the various fire stations and in the maintenance shop handling maintenance problems.
Must have three (3) years' experience in the Montgomery Fire Department and must be certified as a MFD Firefighter. Must have two (2) years of electro-mechanical experience on equipment such as appliances, small motors, compressors and/or overhead doors or have completed a Certification Course in Electronics Technology, Mechanics or a related course and (1) year of electro-mechanical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Employees in this position may be required to be on-call 24-hrs a day for emergency maintenance problems. Must obtain a valid Certification in Air Pak SCBA Maintenance and Overhaul within 12 months after being hired into the position.
