The fundamental reason
this position exists is to manage and direct emergency and non-emergency
operations of multiple stations within an assigned district or division of
personnel. This is skilled supervisory work directing and
overseeing the activities of suppression companies in a designated district
during an assigned shift. The major responsibilities of the District Fire Chief
include assuming and exercising command of emergency operations and
coordinating the day-to-day shift operations of fire companies. Work is
performed under the direct supervision of the Assistant Chief and requires
independent judgment, and an ability to make quick and sound decisions while
considering the welfare and safety of the public and of department personnel.
Must have one (1) year of experience and be
currently employed at a PS4 Level and must meet
all minimum
qualifications of a Fire Captain to be eligible to take the promotional
test and to be eligible for promotion. Additional
requirements include Haz Mat Incident Commander and a current EMT III
Paramedic State License.
If
promoted to the rank of Fire Sergeant prior to October 1, 2020, Fireground
Operations (Engine Company and Ladder Company) are not required.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
DISTRICT CHIEF DIVISION REQUIREMENTS:
INVESTIGATIONS BUREAU: Must have worked one (1) year in the Investigations Division to be eligible. Must have all certifications required of an Investigator Captain.
INSPECTIONS BUREAU: Must have worked one (1) year in the Inspections Division to be eligible. Must have all certifications required of an Inspector Captain.
