Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to manage the operation of ride attractions at the Montgomery Zoo such as the train, paddle boat, sky tram, giraffe encounter, petting zoo and parakeet cove. The essential functions are: supervises two or more full-time employees; inspects rides according to safety checklists; and manages the day-to-day operation of all rides. The Ride Manager reports to the Deputy Zoo Director.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.  Two years of supervisory experience to include previous experience in a customer service setting. Preference may be given to applicants with experience overseeing day-to-day ride attractions at a Zoo, Park or similar facility.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

   

Special Requirements

Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and flexible hours as well as various evening hours. Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions including cold, heat and rain. Must be willing to work with adults and children of various backgrounds.  Must be able to perform some job functions at 40 feet off the ground.  Must have and maintain a valid Alabama Driver's license as needed to pick up parts and other supplies. Physical ability to lift 60 lbs. unassisted as needed to lift horse tact, feed, hay bales and assist small children on ponies and/or sky tram. Ability to walk, stoop and climb for extended periods of time.
