Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is to plan and direct Montgomery Zoo education programming.  Work responsibilities include: assists citizens and/or teachers with developing educational materials or programs; recommends expenditures from Zoo operating budget; researches, plans and prepares education support materials; performs animal care duties; prepares and gives public presentations; recruits, trains, manages and plans the activities of adult and youth volunteers.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the Program Services Manager at the Zoo. 

Minimum Qualifications

Must have a Bachelors Degree in biology, zoology, education or a related field and one (1) year of paid experience, managing the care of wild and exotic animals or planning and researching for zoo education.


NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

  

Special Requirements

Must be willing to work nights, holidays or weekends as needed to promote special events or programs and to attend out of town conferences or meetings as needed. Must be able to obtain a TB test and CPR training within the first month of employment.
