The fundamental reason this classification exists is to develop, implement and monitor a comprehensive Zoo security program designed to protect and safeguard the facility and its collections and provide a safe environment for visitors and staff. The essential functions are: supervises two or more full-time employees of the Zoo security staff, manages security and protection of visitors, property and animals of the Montgomery Zoo, performs customer service and administrative duties and serves as Zoo liaison with Police, Fire, alarm companies, security contractors and other departments and agencies involved in the protection and safety of the facility. The Zoo Security Supervisor reports to the Zoo Operations Manager, Deputy Zoo Director and the Zoo Director.
High school diploma or GED, and at least five years' experience in security work, protecting persons and property to include two years security supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical ability to walk, stand and remain alert for the duration of the assigned shift as needed to perform security duties and patrol assigned areas.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must be willing to submit to a thorough background investigation. Must be willing to patrol and secure zoo property in all types of weather and ground conditions. Must be willing to work an assigned shift. Must be willing to work holidays, weekends, nights and on-call duty as needed.
