This is professional and technical work handling and installing works of art and designing exhibitions in coordination with curatorial staff of the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. Responsibilities also include planning and scheduling work, designing and constructing cabinets, frames and mounts, and directing, overseeing and supervising one full time employee, interns, volunteers and all temporary employees in the performance of installation functions, and inspecting, maintaining and dismantling exhibits. The Museum Preparator/Designer is supervised by the Curator of Art.
A minimum of one year of experience in carpentry, including six months in fine, finish carpentry OR a minimum of one year of experience in art installation and matting/framing within an art museum, art gallery, frame shop or other art related setting OR a minimum of one year of experience as a two or three dimensional designer, including architectural design or graphics with demonstrated drafting/illusion skills.
Must possess a valid Alabama driver's license as needed to pick up parts from local vendors and transport works of art.
