Therapeutic Recreation Center Director (#CI7375)

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to manage the employees and facility of the Therapeutic Recreation Center.  The center serves approximately 350+ clients per week and provides general recreation, creative arts, adaptive sports, aquatics, transportation, and a disability lab. 

The essential functions of the classification include supervising, managing, overseeing the creation and implementation of programs and events, overseeing client services, serving as the public relations contact for the center, and managing the center's financial resources.  The Center Director is ultimately responsible for the supervision of 30+ employees and is typically supervised by the Recreation Superintendent.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation or a bachelor's degree in an allied health professional field of study such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology or science,  speech pathology,  music therapy,  art therapy,  special education, or  adaptive physical education and  two years of supervisory experience within the past five years.  Must be certified or eligible for certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must have the ability to work weekends, evenings and attend camps and special events.  Must be able to obtain a commercial driver's license as needed to drive the center bus for emergencies.
