Nature of Work
The Coordinator performs professional recreation
work involving the planning and implementation of creative arts activities for
special populations of various age level groups. Examples of creative arts
includes, but is not limited to, painting, drawing, clay, and performance art. Examples
of special populations include individuals with hearing and visual impairments,
mentally and physically challenged and individuals with strokes. Employees in this classification receive
instructions on the scheduling of classes and on course content from the
supervisor, but must exercise independent judgment in the application of
specialized knowledge and techniques in the conduct of the work. The employee is primarily tasked with
developing modified creative arts activities and programs, teaching creative
crafts, maintaining a green house and garden area, ordering and maintaining
creative arts supplies and materials, overseeing a recreation aide and
volunteers, coordinating events, teams, clubs, etc. and contributing to the
Therapeutic Recreation Center’s (TRC) objectives. This classification reports
to the Assistant Director Therapeutic Recreation Center.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation
or related field and one (1) year of experience working in creative arts for
individuals with disabilities.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience
that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Special Requirements
CDL is preferred. Must be able to work flexible schedules, depending on program needs including working nights and weekends and shifting assignment as program needs change.
