General Therapeutic Recreation Assistant Coordinator (#CI7334)

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to develop, plan and implement therapeutic programs for special population in the city of Montgomery.  Employee will also supervise staff and volunteers during on-going activities. The essential functions of this class are: plans, coordinates and implements daily general recreation programs for individuals with disabilities; assists in the coordination of transportation and transports individuals with disabilities to and from the Therapeutic Recreation Center and out of town trips; coordinates and supervises the activities of Recreation Aides and volunteers; maintains daily and weekly records, reports, forms, equipment, materials and supplies used for program activity.  The General Therapeutic Recreation Assistant Coordinator reports to the General Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent and one year of experience in an organized Recreational Program working with individuals with disabilities. Supervisory experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.


NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must be willing to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends. Employment is conditioned upon applicants acquiring and maintaining a commercial driver's license (CDL) in accordance with the provisions of the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1986 and providing a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) from the Department of Public Safety as proof of an insurable driving record.  CDL must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.
