Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to manage the Electrical Traffic Control and Street Lighting Division of the Traffic Engineering Department.  Work involves designing, planning, implementing, and overseeing projects within the division.  The work performed in this classification is distinguished from the Traffic Control Supervisor by the supervisory responsibility as well as the higher level of required design knowledge and responsibility.  Primary work responsibilities may include:  managing the operations of the Electrical Traffic Control and Street Lighting Division; supervising two or more full-time subordinate supervisors and/or employees; managing the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical and electronic traffic control devices, street lighting, and communication systems; designing plans for new & existing intersections; evaluating estimated and real costs of all jobs; and performing essential administrative duties.  Work is performed under general supervision of the Director of Traffic Engineering.

Minimum Qualifications

Associates degree in electrical systems, electrical engineering, or closely related area and five years of experience in electrical traffic control and/or street lighting systems.  Two of the five years of experience must be at the senior technician level and include supervising subordinate employees.  Possession of IMSA Level II certificate and/or Master Electrician’s certificate are preferred.

Note:  Qualifying education training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.



  


Special Requirements

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.   Must have (or obtain within the six-month probationary period) a Commercial Driver’s License Class B (Airbrakes). Must be available to respond to emergency situations after hours when the need arises.   

WORK CONDITIONS: Work requires some overtime, night, weekends, and holidays as well as afterhours on-call duty.
