The fundamental reason this classification exists is to assist the supervisor with administrative duties and perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of parking meters, signs and stalls in the downtown area. The essential functions are: reviews records of parking meter collections, parking signs and stalls; trains, instructs or advises lower level workers in maintenance and repair techniques; performs meter maintenance and repair work, collects meter fees, replaces and installs parking, regulatory and street signs; and orders equipment and materials required in the maintenance and repair activities. The Parking Management Worker II reports directly to the Parking Management Supervisor.
High school diploma or GED. Two years' experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of parking meters, signs and stalls or related type of experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Note: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must be able to perform all duties of the Parking Meter Supervisor in the absence of the supervisor. Must be able to learn procedures for installing parking signs and stalls as listed in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices within the six months probationary period. Must possess a valid Alabama driver’s license as needed to operate city vehicle. Must be able to work special events, weekends and during emergency situations as needed. Must be physically able to perform the duties of this position, to include extensive walking, lifting up to 70 lbs., carrying equipment, stooping, and bending.
