The
fundamental reason that this position exists is to provide carpentry support to
crews working for the construction, maintenance, and repair of City properties.
Incumbents are responsible for performing skilled carpentry tasks in accordance
with standard practices of the trade. They perform skilled hand and bench
carpentry duties including operating power driven equipment and using hand
tools. Their assignments are received in the form of oral or written
instructions, sketches, or blueprints from a supervisor. Work is reviewed by
inspection during work process or upon completion of assignment for compliance
with specifications and standards. The distinguishing characteristics of this
classification within the series include responsibility for performing
journey-level work. Carpenter I incumbents are learning the trade and,
typically, do not yet possess the proficiency required of a Carpenter II
incumbent. Direct supervision is received from the Building Construction
Supervisor.
