Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to order, record, store, and issue automotive, heavy equipment and other related parts and supplies for fleet maintenance and repair.  The work responsibilities of the position include: orders, receives, inspects, stores and issues automotive and vehicle parts; monitors inventory through computerized and physical count, and other records; and performs other duties as necessary to provide a safe work environment, to support and contribute to the overall department objectives.  Direct supervision is received from the Fleet Maintenance Parts Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D. and two (2) years of experience in automotive/vehicle parts counter work to include computerized inventory and purchasing.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

 

Special Requirements

May be required to work days or nights and some holidays.  Must be able to work flexible work schedules as needed to maintain adequate manpower.  Must have or obtain a valid and current Alabama driver’s license in order to drive city vehicles.
