The fundamental reason this classification exists is to supervise the custodial services division or subdivision within a large City department. Employee in this class supervises service maintenance workers in the performance of general cleaning and custodial work to ensure the assigned buildings/facilities are properly cleaned and floors are maintained within acceptable standards. The essential functions of this class are: supervises two or more full-time employees performing custodial and/or minor maintenance activities; trains and instructs the work of employees engaged in such tasks as cleaning of restrooms, sweeping, mopping, dusting and polishing furniture, washing windows, emptying waste receptacles, and waxing floors; conducts inspections of buildings; and performs administrative duties. Work is performed under general direction and is reviewed on the basis of results obtained. Errors can result in not training staff members on the proper usage of chemicals and the appropriate safety materials to use during cleaning, i.e., gloves, boots, aprons.
High school diploma or GED equivalent and three (3) years of experience providing commercial cleaning services. A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a lead person overseeing or directing custodial services is required. Preference will be given to persons serving as lead worker of multiple locations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the
requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Possession of a valid Alabama Driver's License as needed to visit City buildings and properties to assist employees and to inspect the work of employees.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Travels to various office buildings within the City to assist employees and to inspect the work of employees. Moves objects weighing from 50 -70 pounds with assistance. May work with and/or be exposed to cleaning fluids, chemicals, or similar solutions.
