The fundamental reason this classification
exists is to exercise managerial responsibility and accountability for the
City’s highest priority development projects related to real estate, business,
economic development, and urban revitalization.
Major work responsibilities
include developing new strategies, policies, directions, etc.; planning for
development projects and programs; implementing development projects and
programs; supervising merit and contract employees or contractors; and related
administrative duties. May be required
to make decisions that have a significant impact on the city. Maintains
critical relationships with key government representatives, regional business
leaders, and various stakeholders. Works
on complex and sensitive assignments that may require a high degree of
confidentiality over an extended period, is a subject matter expert in job
discipline, and therefore, is responsible for guiding others in the development
of new processes and practices. May hold
budgetary responsibility that includes budget preparation, financial planning,
and administration of funds for the department. This classification reports to the
Director of Economic Development.
Bachelor's
degree in Finance, Real Estate, Business Administration, Public Administration,
Urban Planning, or related field, and five (5) years of progressively responsible
management experience in city, community, or economic development, real estate
development, public-private partnerships, or municipal planning. Experience must
include managing complex development projects and working with public sector
stakeholders.

education, training, and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills,
and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
