The fundamental reason this
position exists is to provide sound legal advice and superior legal
representation to city officials to aid in achieving their goals. The employee
in this class is a legal advisor to the Mayor, City Council, and City
department heads and directs all City civil, Real Estate, and criminal
litigation. Duties require the exercise of extensive independent judgment and
are performed in accordance with general policies of the Mayor and the City
Council and the accepted standards and practices of the legal profession. The
City Attorney is the head of the Legal Department and reports directly to the
Mayor. Employee supervises a staff of professional and support personnel. The City
Attorney collaborates with the Human Resources, Municipal Court, and Inspector
General Departments.
Graduation from a
recognized law school, and possession of a certificate of admission to the Bar
of the Supreme Court of Alabama, and at least seven (7) years of experience in municipal,
administrative, and employment law.

the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be
considered.
