Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is to provide technical and logistical support for analyzing, planning, developing, and the administration of a city/county-wide emergency management training and exercise program with an emphasis on the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) and state and local Medical Countermeasure (MCM) plans.  The work responsibilities are assisting with coordinating the planning and exercise training of the SNS program; maintaining and organizing stockpile; identifying and researching grant funds; and serving in various roles during Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations. Direct supervision is received from the EMA Operations Officer.  

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and one (1) year of professional experience in providing technical and administrative support in emergency management, emergency response, coordinating emergency measures or services including management, planning, and training. 

NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must be willing to be on call 24 hours a day in order to activate the Emergency Operations Center during natural, manmade, or technological disasters or hazards. May also be required to report to the scene of an actual disaster as needed. Must have and maintain a valid Alabama Drivers’ license in order to operate City Vehicles. Must be willing to attend out-of-town training which may require overnight stay as needed.
