The fundamental reason this classification exists is to plan, coordinate and direct the activities of the Sanitation Department. Major duties include developing, implementing and enforcing policies and procedures for overall administration and generally overseeing all department activities, such as collection and transportation of solid waste and recyclables, street sweeping, and litter control. The Director reports to the Mayor or to his Executive Assistant.
Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field. Five years of highly responsible management experience directing the activities of multiple work crews involved in the collection and transportation of solid waste. Experience may substitute for the educational requirement on the basis of one year of experience for one year of college.
NOTE:Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the
requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays and willing to be on call to respond to emergency incidents as needed.
