Nature of Work

The Senior Policy Advisor will be responsible for working directly with the Mayor of Montgomery and Chief of Staff on developing and helping implement policies and programs that advance the mayor’s vision for the city. Education will be a priority of the portfolio, which will also include criminal justice/public safety, cultural arts and entertainment, economic development, infrastructure and transportation, health and human services, legislative activity, and any other issues the Mayor and Chief of Staff identify. This position reports to the Chief of Staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field and five (5) years’ experience in progressively responsible work involving policy and issues analysis related to organizational structure and functions. Experience must include at least two years of strategic planning for legislative and political activity. Must have high level data analysis experience as it relates to organizational policy development and implementation. Post graduate education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

NOTE: Qualifying education training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
